About NorthEliq
NorthEliq is an independent quarterly journal covering Nordic and Baltic architecture, interiors, craft and product design. We publish four print-and-web editions a year and a short monthly note for subscribers — the kind of slow, edited reading that doesn't quite fit anywhere else.
What we publish
- Studio visits. Long-form profiles of architects, designers and craftspeople, written in their workshops.
- Long reads. Archival essays, regional surveys and the occasional contrarian opinion.
- Field notes. Short visits to single projects — a chapel, a library, a quiet conversion.
- Monthly notes. A short email digest of openings, exhibitions and recommended reads worth your time.
Our editorial standards
- We visit the work. Every studio profile and field note is based on a real visit, not a press release.
- We pay our contributors. Flat per-piece rates, published transparently, no spec work.
- We mark sponsored items. When a partner pays for placement we label it; when we accept hospitality, we disclose it.
- We don't run third-party ads. The journal is supported by subscriptions, print sales and a small partner programme.
Who reads NorthEliq
Architects, designers, curators, students, builders and a quietly growing number of readers who simply like the way the journal is made. The print edition is sold in around 60 independent bookshops across Europe, the UK and North America.
The team
NorthEliq is run by a small team between Helsinki and Tallinn, with contributing editors across Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Iceland, Finland and the three Baltic states. We work in English and occasionally publish bilingual long reads with our home regions' languages.
